WARREN GOLF CLUB at Notre Dame (574-631-4653)
Indiana Golf Course Review
The Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame is a beautiful four star (Golf Digest Places to Play) Bill Coore/Ben Crenshaw championship design that has been open for public play since the year 2000. This is old fashioned, traditional golf along rolling terrain with plentiful bunkering and a great variety of shot opportunities. The terrain presents a nice contrast of open fairways mixed in with those that are tight and tree-lined. Walking is allowed at all times!
The clubhouse at the Warren Golf Course is spacious with a full service pro shop, plus restaurant/lounge that serves bar food, hot and cold sandwiches and snacks. There are banquet/outing facilities that can accommodate up to 120 people. Also on property are extensive practice facilities that include a grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus putting green.
Four sets of tee boxes play to yardages and slopes measuring 7011/131, 6744/129, 6346/123 slope for men and 134 for women, and 5302 with a 121 slope for the ladies. The average golfer will find the distance a challenge from the middle set (6346 yards) as there are 5 par fours that play to between 415 and 443 yards. The "big dog" is a necessary club on this course, which usually provides ample landing zones on the well manicured bent grass fairways. The 86 sand bunkers are penal in nature, with high lips. The undulating green complexes usually feature a few of these hazards, as well as slopes that make a good short game a necessity to scoring well. It is often said that the greatest challenge on this course begins from 40 yards in, although those landing in one of the many fairway traps will also have a tough time achieving par..
The course is well marked with red, white and blue posts in the fairways to indicate the 100, 150 and 200 yard areas. Sprinkler heads are also measured to the center of the green, and pin placement info is provided by color coded flags for front, middle and back hole locations.
As the photos in this review prove - the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame is a beauty! It has been certified as a Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary since 2001 - lots of wildlife on this secluded piece of land!
