(THE) PLAYERS CLUB at Woodland Trails (765-759-8536)
Indiana Golf Course Review
The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown (East Central Indiana) presents finely maintained bent grass greens, fairways and tees, on a mildly rolling terrain that plays beside an upscale residential community. Contoured mounding separates some parallel fairways and provides character and design features to the mix of open and tree lined par fours and fives.
There is usually ample room off the tee, and golfers will encounter open green complexes which afford excellent chances for up and down recoveries. Bunkering near the fairways and greenside is understated but strategic, with a total of 34 sand traps on the course. The putting surfaces themselves are medium in size and are quite undulating, with swales and mounds awaiting offline approaches.
The Players Club was in wonderful shape on our early October visit, and we were impressed as well by the variety in hole designs. Four sets of tees let players choose from sets that play to distances and slopes measuring 6926 yards/133 slope, 5620 yards/130 slope, 6135 yards/125 slope, with the forward tees also playing to a 125 slope for women, at 5482 yards.
On course there are 100, 150 and 200 yard markers on the fairways and sprinkler heads are also measured to the center of the green. Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back pin placements. The clubhouse at The Players Club features a snack area and pro shop with clubs, attire and accessories, plus an event pavilion that can accommodate a full outing or a group function for up to 120 guests.
Practice facilities include a grass range and large putting/chipping green - one of the best facilities in the region. Instruction from the PGA professional for lessons of all kinds is available on property, and tee times are accepted up to 1 week in advance. USGA handicapping is also available, as are memberships.
The Players Club presents an affordable and good quality golf experience, with rates including cart topping out at just $40 prime time in 2006. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
