CEDAR CREEK GOLF CLUB (260-627-5623)
Indiana Golf Course Review
Cedar Creek Golf Club in Leo - just northeast of Ft Wayne, is an 18-hole championship facility designed by Bob Beard in 1965. Many renovations and a multitude of changes later, the course operates as one of the top golf values in Northeast Indiana. Bent grass greens and well taken care of rye/bluegrass fairways and tees provide golfers with nice playing conditions.
The rolling topography presents opportunities for many raised and depressed golf shots, both off the tee and on the approaches. The terrain allows for natural hole designs, with understated, man-made mound complexes along the playing surfaces. Many green complexes are open in front, allowing for low running approaches and bump & run chips, and there is also generally ample room for recoveries to the sides and behind as well.
Three sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6365 yards/122 slope, 6091 yards/120 slope and 4956 yards with a slope of 117 from the forward sets. There are 100, 150 and 200 yard markers on the fairways, and sprinkler heads on all par fours and fives are measured to the center of the green. Golf Logix hand-held GPS is available and color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations.
On property are a targeted grass range, putting green and short game area for chipping and sand practice. The clubhouse facilities include a pro shop and restaurant serving beverages, snacks and a lunch menu. Golf lessons and a variety of memberships are available, and the cedar Creek website is loaded with info non these programs.
As the slope ratings indicate, this is a player friendly layout that can be enjoyed by all levels of golfers. Eight holes have water in play in some shape or form, and bunkering is understated, with 26 sand traps located near the landing zones on the fairways or green-side. Generally speaking, there is ample room off the tee and plenty of room near the mostly back to front sloped green complexes for up and down recovery opportunities.
The conditioning is such, and the layout is interesting enough (and the price is right), that even seasoned golfers will appreciate Cedar Creek as a nice value golf experience. For more info, visit our page fro the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
